Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some answers to common questions you may have. Please reach out with any additional questions.
What is coaching?
According to the International Coaching Federation (ICF), coaching is defined as "partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential". This partnership focuses on goal setting, personal development, and discovering solutions through self-knowledge.
How is coaching different from counseling? When should I work with a life coach and when would a therapist be more appropriate?
A coach is like an architect, helping you design your future and make your dreams a reality. Life coaching can be a great fit for you if you want to set and achieve future-oriented goals or successfully navigate a life transition. A counselor is more like an archeologist, helping you dig up the past. Counseling may be a better fit for you for healing from past trauma, treating mental health conditions (such as depression) or navigating emotional distress.
What's expected of me as a client?
Show up on time and ready to fully engage during our sessions. Please be ready to show up not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well, setting aside any distractions to make the most of our time together.
Commit to the process and be open to going outside your comfort zone. As your coach, I’m going to challenge you to do some work and it may not always be comfortable or easy. But it’s for your good and your growth!
Be respectful.
What if I don’t know what I want to be coached on?
That’s ok! I can help you uncover what will be most helpful to address. We will start our work together with you completing an assessment reflecting on your satisfaction and desires across many areas of your life. Then in our first session together, we will discuss your assessment and uncover areas of opportunity that could be helpful to address through coaching. We then turn those into goals that we can work on in future sessions. It’s also common that other topics may come up as we work together that are separate from your goals. At the beginning of each session, I’ll check in on how you are doing and we will discuss what is top of mind for you that would be most helpful to work on.
Is it possible to purchase a single session? I only see package options. Are individual sessions available?
While we can make progress in one session, the most significant impact will come from working together over the course of multiple sessions. It takes time for us to get to know one another, align on goals and then make meaningful progress toward achieving those goals. Oftentimes, what sounds like a simple goal has many layers and complexities to it that need to be worked through. I want to set you up for success for improving in the way you desire, and in order to do that, we need a good amount of time together and between sessions for you to do the work. This is why I only offer package options rather than individual sessions to ensure we have the time needed to realize the results you desire. If you have a desired number of sessions or cadence outside of what’s listed, please reach out and we can discuss options.
Is this confidential?
Yes! Anything you share with me in our sessions will be kept confidential. I will not disclose that you are a client unless you give me permission to do so, such as for testimonials.
